Coalition Music and CMI show us that coworking goes beyond just sharing space

The COHO Creative Hub is home to two distinct organizations with one mission: To elevate the careers and businesses of those they serve. Coalition Music, rooted in artist management while CMI - Canada's Music Incubator, provides professional development for musicians across all genres of music as well as music industry professionals through its educational programs and professional development workshops which include  business strategy, marketing, social media, streaming, risk management, and more.  They come together to elevate the careers of their artists while also supporting each other in this creative space that they share at 1731 Lawrence Ave E., Toronto.

The two organizations have not only a shared mission but an inherent spirit of collaboration and support for each other and creative entrepreneurs. COHO is a place for artists, producers and content creators to work, connect and collaborate - giving professionals access to resources necessary for success!

“Our relationship with CMI goes beyond just sharing the space.  We collaborate to provide our artists with full support from both organizations.  Our complimentary vision was the key factor when this initiative began and that spirit is what has made it a success” explains Rob Lanni co-founder of Coalition Music.

Situated on the grounds of what was once the elementary school of the historic village of Wexford in the 1920s, and then evolving into a convent in the 1950s, the recently renovated 12,000 square foot, shared location at 1731 Lawrence Ave East, in Toronto, boasts recording spaces, video/photo studios, meeting spaces and office spaces including a breathtaking room called the Chapel.  This grand old Chapel is perfect for full band rehearsals, live stream concerts, and recording sessions.

Since 2012, the two organizations have collaborated by sharing a mutual desire to help artists…often times, creating new business opportunities for both parties.  Coalition Music’s connectivity to the greater Canadian music industry has been beneficial in allowing CMI to reach out to music industry professionals to act as mentors to many of the artists that CMI has worked with.  On the other hand, Coalition Music has benefitted by having had the opportunity to work closely with some of the artists affiliated with CMI.

Both CMI and Coalition Music have realized that they have both been able to remain connected to each other while simultaneously remaining independent of each other.

With the rise in sharing space, collaborating with a partner can be crucial for an artist's success. Coalition Music and CMI demonstrate how they found their perfect match to maximize opportunities together - leading them down new paths that would not have been available otherwise.

“Just sharing a space with someone will help you save money but finding the right partner will help you grow and provide better services to your clients, in our case the artists”, says Eric Lawrence, co-founder of Coalition Music.

If you are a Canadian artist looking for more than just a recording space, you should check out COHO and see what they have to offer.
